Meet the Commissioner

Alex Smith

A Champion for Youth Through Sports

Alex Smith has dedicated the last 20+ years of his life to the game of football. It is a sport that has made an indelible impact on his life teaching valuable lessons in resiliency, teamwork, and determination to achieve his goals. Aside from football, he is even more passionate about the development of our youth and is eager to share his incredible 18 years of NFL experience with the next generation of athletes!

A former NFL tight end selected by the Buccaneers in the third round (71st overall) in 2005 out of Stanford University, Alex finished his career playing in 124 career games while catching 163 passes for 1,473 yards and 13 touchdowns. After a successful 11-year playing career, Alex transitioned to the front office of the Buccaneers where he helped build a championship organization winning a 2020 World Championship and three Division Titles in a row.

Alex has always had a desire to give back volunteering his time in the local communities and holding free football clinics for the youth of his native Bahamas while still playing. He has remained active in the community coaching in the Under the Lights youth program for the last 6 years and has been thrilled to bring the flag football experience to Land O’ Lakes and now expanding to Starkey Ranch!

His father Edwin, who played defensive end for the Denver Broncos and is in the Bahamas Sports Hall of Fame showed Alex a pathway to the NFL was possible and inspired him to reach for the stars. Alex doesn’t just want to encourage his 3 boys to pursue their athletic dreams but also hopes to inspire and motivate as many boys and girls as possible!

We look forward to connecting with you and sharing in the joy and excitement of flag football as we cultivate the next generation of athletes and help them reach their full potential.

EASII Foundation for Youth

About EASII Foundation for Youth

EASII Foundation for Youth is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in February 2007 by Alex Smith, during his tenure with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Rooted in a passion for youth development, the foundation leverages decades of experience in athletic and educational enrichment to empower young athletes—both in local communities and abroad.

The inspiration behind the Foundation stems from Alex’s father, Edwin Smith, a former Denver Bronco and the first Bahamian to play in the NFL. Carrying forward his father’s legacy, Alex hosted free football camps in the Bahamas for three consecutive summers, serving youth ages 8 to 18. These camps revealed the extraordinary potential of young athletes who had limited access to American football but limitless determination.

With steadfast support from his mother, Pia Smith, the Foundation was formally established to expand access to educational and athletic opportunities for deserving youth. Through impactful partnerships with the NFL Players Association, Atlantis Resort, the Government of the Bahamas, and various local businesses, EASII Foundation continues to use sports as a powerful vehicle for education, mentorship, and character development.

Since its inception, the Foundation has organized fundraising dinners, silent auctions, and hurricane relief initiatives, each reinforcing its mission to uplift and inspire youth through opportunity, access, and community support.

The mission of the EASII Foundation for Youth is to provide access to quality education for low income youth from all ethnic groups, cultures, and religions
